Game Changers

Social group for ages 8-12 year olds

Registration for Summer 2026 Session is now open

This group is designed for children ages 8–12 who are developing their regulation and
connection skills with peers. The small group format is facilitated by doctorate-level
pediatric occupational therapists trained in the DIRFloortime approach

What Your Child Will Learn

Through hands-on sensory and collaborative play, each session naturally supports your child in these core areas:

Emotional Regulation

Children learn to navigate the natural highs and lows of gameplay, including handling both winning and losing gracefully. We incorporate movement and sensory input to help them stay grounded and regulated throughout the session.

Social Participation

Through shared tabletop activities, children practice building meaningful peer relationships. The small group environment provides a supportive space for engaging and connecting with others who share similar interests.

Flexible Thinking

Board games naturally introduce unexpected changes. We support children in adapting to new rules, understanding different perspectives, and adjusting their strategies when a game takes a surprising turn.

Following a Group Plan

Children practice essential skills like turn taking and planning while participating in structured games. We focus on helping them understand and follow along with a shared group goal.

Shared Problem Solving

When disagreements or tricky situations arise during play, we guide children through conflict resolution. They work together to communicate ideas and find solutions that keep the game moving forward.

Purposeful Communication

Using a child led approach, we encourage group members to express their thoughts and advocate for their needs. They practice clear communication to clarify rules, share ideas, and interact respectfully with their peers.

About Game Changers

Game Changers is a small group designed for children ages 8 to 12 who show an interest in playing board games and are developing their regulation and connection skills with peers. Facilitated by a doctorate level pediatric occupational therapist trained in the DIRFloortime approach, the group provides a supportive and engaging environment. Each week, children participate in structured game play paired with opportunities for movement and sensory input. Our therapists follow your child’s lead to support self regulation and guide purposeful two way communication. By focusing on playful, shared experiences, we naturally foster collaboration, flexible thinking, and shared problem solving. We always prioritize meaningful peer connection, helping children practice essential life skills like turn taking, perspective taking, and handling both winning and losing gracefully.
