Game Changers
Social group for ages 8-12 year olds
Registration for Summer 2026 Session is now open
This group is designed for children ages 8–12 who are developing their regulation and
connection skills with peers. The small group format is facilitated by doctorate-level
pediatric occupational therapists trained in the DIRFloortime approach
What Your Child Will Learn
Emotional Regulation
Children learn to navigate the natural highs and lows of gameplay, including handling both winning and losing gracefully. We incorporate movement and sensory input to help them stay grounded and regulated throughout the session.
Social Participation
Through shared tabletop activities, children practice building meaningful peer relationships. The small group environment provides a supportive space for engaging and connecting with others who share similar interests.
Flexible Thinking
Board games naturally introduce unexpected changes. We support children in adapting to new rules, understanding different perspectives, and adjusting their strategies when a game takes a surprising turn.
Following a Group Plan
Children practice essential skills like turn taking and planning while participating in structured games. We focus on helping them understand and follow along with a shared group goal.
Shared Problem Solving
When disagreements or tricky situations arise during play, we guide children through conflict resolution. They work together to communicate ideas and find solutions that keep the game moving forward.
Purposeful Communication
Using a child led approach, we encourage group members to express their thoughts and advocate for their needs. They practice clear communication to clarify rules, share ideas, and interact respectfully with their peers.
