Frequently Asked Questions
Most frequent questions and answers
How do I know if my child needs Occupational Therapy?
If you notice challenges with balance, coordination, self-regulation, school skills, social interactions, self-care, play skills, focus or attention, we suggest scheduling a consult call with an occupational therapist.
How do I know if my child needs Speech Therapy?
If you notice challenges with vocabulary, pronunciation issues, limited expressive language, lack of social interaction, stuttering, and/or late milestones, we suggest scheduling a consult or tour with a speech therapist.
How do I know if my child needs Feeding Therapy?
If your child avoids certain foods based on textures or colors, eats less than 15 foods, refuses entire food groups, has behavioral challenges or meltdowns at meals, we suggest scheduling a consult call with a feeding therapist.
How long will my child need therapy?
The duration that your child will be in therapy will be recommended after an evaluation has been completed and the therapist becomes familiar with your child. Following through with activities that your therapist suggests at home will expedite your child’s therapy with us.
Will my child grow out of these issues?
We all change as we mature and develop. Sensory Integration concerns are not something that children grow out of. Early identification and treatment can make a huge impact on your child’s physical development and psychological well-being. When we understand how a child processes sensory information, we can create individualized activities that give comfort and support sensory processing. A child who feels understood develops lifelong confidence and self-esteem.
Do I need a doctor's referral to start therapy?
No, a doctor’s referral is not necessary in order to start therapy. However, please check with your insurance provider to see if it is necessary for reimbursement if you are submitting a superbill. We will be happy to schedule a call with your pediatrician after our evaluation to consult on your child’s current development level.
How long is a therapy session?
Each session is 50 minutes of direct 1:1 treatment. The last few minutes are dedicated to talking with parents/caregivers about the session.
Can my child receive therapy at home or in the classroom?
Yes, we offer at home and/or at school therapy sessions. Depending on your child’s identified needs, we will occasionally visit a classroom or home to provide insight and support related to the therapy your child is receiving.
We also offer routine treatment within your home or in the classroom based on the needs identified.
Do you accept insurance?
Tumble N’ Dots is an out-of-network clinic by design — we don’t bill insurance directly, which lets us focus on what your child actually needs rather than what an insurance company will approve. Payment is due at the time of service. We provide detailed monthly superbills you can submit to your PPO plan for potential reimbursement, and many of our families get a significant portion of their costs covered this way. For information about reimbursement rates, contact your insurance provider about your specific out-of-network benefits. For more details, see our out-of-network reimbursement guide.
I'm not sure if we need an evaluation or ongoing therapy sessions, can I talk to a therapist before we start?
